Hi! I am Nikhil Kasinadhuni. Most people just prefer Nikhil to the
rather long recital. :) This is my abode on the Internet. Here, you will
find various pieces of evidence that I indeed do something with my life.
;) I am maj0r Computer geek. I've been inhabiting the 'net for over 6-7 years
now, but never really had the patience to get a website setup. A friend of
mine finally convinced me finally that I deserve a place of my own I shud
be putting my name all over it. Well, here it is! :) I've been a Linux freaq
since 1995. I started with Slackware Linux
and still use it, till date. Why? cuz, Simplicity is Divine
(tm)
I am a member of the Indian Linux Users Group - Hyderabad Chapter. I serve
as the Coordinator for the group. We have a website at
http://ilug-hyd.org.in
, adminstered by yours truly.
Here are the various stuff I conjured up in the process of trying to bridge
the gap between my imagination and reality:
- SMSTerm
- I presented a paper on SMSTerm at D.E. Shaw Infinity 2002 National Level
Technical Symposium, Osmania University. The abstract can be obtained from
http://free.house.cx/~nikhil/smsterm.pdf
.Yeah, I know I've been promising that i'll put up a seperate site for SMSTerm,
but I'm too busy filling application forms now. :)
- GnomeMsg
- Its an Instant Messaging System which I wrote during my 1st year of Engineering.
It has some basic IM features and some task management features too. I wrote
it for a corporate environment. There was a Java client in the works but has
been abandoned.
There are some other stuff which I'll perhaps get online once I'm done with
all this Graduate School Application stuff:
- My OpenGL based DXF Viewer
- MONOPOLY - My project in my final year at High School. See
what you can make out of good ol' BGI graphics with some neet VESA
calls in raw x86 ASM thrown in for some added palette effects!
:)
- MenuMaker - This was something I'd written back in class 7,
in BASIC. I was trying to make VB for DOS. It could automatically make
menus and dialog boxes for you. I lost the source in a hard disk crash. I
only have a binary lying around, which is an older version. It writes code
in C or BASIC. I'll see if I can fish the source out from somewhere.
- My Document Analysis and Character Recognition for Indian Languages
Application which I ended up developing whilst I was researching under Dr.
Atul Negi. I just have to do a few code cleanups, and it'll be under the
GPL soon. Dont hold yer breath or anything, it'll be out there When Its Done
(tm). ;)
I've worked under Dr. Atul Negi as a Research Assistant and this is what
came of our work:
"Localization, Extraction and Recogntion of Text in Telugu Document Images"
, Atul Negi, K. Nikhil Shanker and Chandrakanth Chereddi. Submitted
to ICDAR 2003. The abstract can be looked over at:
http://free.house.cx/~nikhil/icdar2003-abstract.pdf
For the curious, if you wanna have a look at my Resume,
here it is: http://psy.ed.asu.edu/~nikhil/resume.pdf
Last but not the least, I am doing my B.Tech. at the Mahatma Gandhi
Institute of Technology. We have a site up at
http://mgit.ac.in/
, also administered by yours truly. :^)
My adjacent college is the Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Techonology
who have a site at http://cbit.ac.in
. I help out at managing their servers too.
My research interests are:
- Computer Graphics and Vision
- Operating Systems (mainly Linux)
I have some other interests other than Computers too:
- Classical Music - I trained in Carnatic Music for ~4 years
- Western Music - Rock, Heavy Metal
- Favourite Bands - Creed, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Bryan Adams
- Shuttle Badminton
