The Not Al Page
The most popular songs he didn't even write (or perform)!
12/09/05 - The "Yes, I'm Still Alive" Update
|
|
Sampler X (a.k.a. M.C. Sampler,
artist of Baby Got Jack) wrote in with words of appreciation for the site.
Pab Sungenis wrote up quite a nifty and much-appreciated mention of the Not Al page. Now go over there and buy some crap!
David Brody of Z100 in New York has been kicking my virtual cyberspace ass via email for not updating the Not Al list in a timely manner lately. I sincerely apologize and hope to make up for it with a flurry of more updates soon.
To those who have been taking time out of their day to write me but haven't received any response, I just want to let you know that I do read all of my messages and never just toss them away if they contain helpful suggestions. I simply haven't had the time to give the Not Al site the attention that I would like and unfortunately this sometimes extends to email about the site. I greatly appreciate all of the support and help I've gotten from you guys over the years.

Made a few minor changes to the list.
Added R.J. from the Fisheads as the unconfirmed artist for Livin'
La Vida Homo.
Added Freeballin' to the list.
Added some words from a fellow Al fan to the FAQ.
Credited The Swinging Erudites with writing the original version of Walk
With an Erection.
Confirmed artists for Who Wants a Recount?
Added A Complicated Song to Al's sont title cross reference.
Added some songs (without artists) to the list.

05/22/03 - Poodle Hat Released!
|
|
Wrote up a quick review of Weird Al's 11th album, Poodle Hat, which was
officially released on May 20th. Is it just another lame parody disc or Al's finest
work yet? Read on to find out.
Added Cows With Guns to the list, credited to Dana Lyons.
Added MacLean and MacLean to the list as unconfirmed artists for the
song, Thank God I'm a Pubic Hair.

01/07/03 - Spreading Truth Like a Disease Since 2001.
|
|
Still haven't yet gotten around to transitioning any part of this site
to the XHTML standard with CSS and all that good stuff. It'll come eventually.
Updates to the list:
Credited Todd Downing to Livin' La Vida Yoda rather than
Jimmy Fallon. They both perform songs of the same name, but Todd's is
apparently more popular than Jimmy's.
Tai Mai Shu seems to be artist of Chinese Combo Number 5, but
there's no official proof just yet.
Removed Sisqo from the artist column of Thong Song. Yes, he
does does a song called Thong Song, but not that Thong Song.
Added another question to the FAQ.
Credited TechnoHippies to SmokaBowla.
Added Bi Bi Bi, which is a parody of NSYNC's
Bye Bye Bye.
Fixed the title of Wrong Foot Amputated.
Added Hooker on a Corner.
Fixed the link to John Mammoser's web site.
Credited Thank God I'm a Pubic Hair to John Valby.
Added Star Wars Gangsta Rap and credited it to Bentframe.
Added The Taliban Can.
Added Three Inch Tool.

Another update after way too long of an interval. Here are the
updates this time around:
New location, same great taste. My email address has also changed,
(yet again) so if you plan on sending me anything, might want to make sure you
have the right address.
Tony Mason of the band None
of the Above wrote in noting that his (now separated) band were the
originators of Nine Inch Claws. As an interesting side note, Tony has
all of the None of the Above songs
available for download at no
cost. If you like the songs, he would probably appreciate a small donation.
Added asterisks instead of numbers for the footnotes on The List. That
will make it a little easier to maintain, I think.
Some other stuff didn't make it into this update, as moving the web pages
took priority.

There have been a couple of updates:
Updated the WarCraft Rap with unconfirmed artist Quency. The
song in question is a ~400k mp3 with some white dude rapping about playing
WarCraft. I found a possible lead at
this page but the file has
been 404'd, thus I could not confirm.
Added Isle of Survivor with confirmed artists to The List.
Added artists for 50 Ways to Get Bin Laden to The List.
FINALLY solved that damn Vagina Song mystery with the help of
Seth Christenfeld.

Greetings to one and all. I've started a News section to help keep things a
little bit more organized around here. Normally a news page is used
on a site that has frequent visitors, but neither is this really that type
of page, nor am I that damn smug.
Mostly, this page will serve as a sort of change log for my own purposes. I
only make it public just on the crazy off-chance that others might be
interested on what, if anything, has changed recently. The List is getting
fairly big now, and there are in fact a couple of new features on the Not
Al page. Amongst them are:
A new News page, dummy!
Two song title cross references: one matches up misnamed Al songs to
their actual titles and the other matches up misnamed Not Al songs to their
actual titles.
A crusade to eliminate all hyphens from in between the words "Not" and
"Al." I originally thought it would help clarify the inverse nature of the
information provided, (that is, songs not written/performed by Al) but I
finally reached the point where I can no longer let myself break perfectly
good rules of grammar just to get my message across more clearly. I will have
to let my writing and design do that on its own. If you spot any rogue
hyphens hiding in these pages please let me know!
Now, among the actual updates:
Added a bunch of songs to the list (check the Feedback section for the
songs and credits to those who submitted them.
Added a new question (and answer!) to the FAQ
page.
Verified that Minimum Wage is not the same as the They Might
Be Giants version. The TMBG one is great, though. :)
(Semi-)Verified that Secret Asian Man is by Da Vinci's
Notebook. It's not the same as the one by The Capitol Steps A
couple people wrote that they thought it might be by someone
else. I'll only change this if someone can give me proof that it's not by
them.
Verified that Bohemian Rap City is mistitle of Al's Bohemian
Polka.
Verified that I Hate Big Butts, I Like Big Butts, and I
Like Small Butts are mistitles of Baby Got Jack
Removed Shigeru Miyamoto as the artist of Legend of Zelda,
as it is plainly not him singing it.
Confirmed that The Bong Song (parody of The Thong Song by
Sisqo) is not the same as the version by the The Butthole
Surfers, which was recorded in 1989.
Also, I'm thinking of adding a review section to comment on the quality
of some of the Not Al songs I've found. Some of them are quite good. I'm
not sure, however, if I will review the ones that do not currently have
artists attributed to them in The List.
Lastly, I'm afraid this isn't a complete update but I really had to get this
thing out the door. I still have a few emails sitting in my inbox but I
promise you, I will get to them soon.
