The Not Al Page

The most popular songs he didn't even write (or perform)!

Feedback:

I welcome feedback regarding the validity of this list. Perhaps you have some artists to add. Perhaps you see a song listed here that you can prove was written and / or performed by Weird Al. Perhaps you have an interesting story or comment for this page. Perhaps I am a dork. Whatever. Your input is always appreciated. I politely ask that you at least skim through the FAQ before sending an email. It might save the both of us a little bit of time.

One final note: I make an honest effort to respond to every email that gets sent my way, but sometimes time is not on my side. I may not get a chance to reply to your message, but I assure you that if you've sent in a suggestion for the Not Al page that I end up using, you will receive credit for it just like those below.

Thanks to:

  • Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz for adding a link to this page on the official "Weird Al" Yankovic website and correcting a few (ahem) spelling errors. It's great to have a band out there that cares that much about their fans.
  • Jason Sales for helping me out with bits of HTML.
  • Harold Waide Jr. for noting a few songs that didn't belong on the list.
  • John Wasser for suggesting that I name the Not-Al songs' real writers/performers. Seems only fair, plus people are more likely to change their song titles if they have something to change them to.
  • Tony Mason of the band None of the Above for being so kind as to drop me an email and providing a link to his site.
  • Marcus Bautze for noting a song author, and adding three new songs to the list.
  • Jeremy for informing me of the proper artist of Will The Real Slim Shady Please Shut Up.
  • Tony Goldmark for adding some more artists to the rather bare-looking list!
  • BJ Tomiko for noting that I'm a Loser Baby was an alternate title people were using for the Alternative Polka.
  • Martin van Dam for adding some songs and artists to the list.
  • Matt Lotz for naming the artists of Ugly Girl.
  • The Squig for adding Enter Napster to the list. Also, for letting us know the real title of the song is actually Internet Sandman and tracking down the artist of the tune.
  • Susan Carter for adding some more Not-Al songs to the list. And again for adding even more songs! And yet again: She's on a roll!
  • Patty Brown wrote in to tell us that the Zthing.com shockwave animation of Oops I Farted Again used Bob Rivers' song for the music.
  • Peter Ivarsson for adding a bunch of artists to the list!
  • Destiny Writer for pointing out an important HTML error.
  • Brien Malone for naming the correct artist of Livin' La Vida Yoda.
  • Adam Field for adding a couple of songs and for reminding me to acknowledge him in this section.
  • G.L. "Glarryg" Gillen for suggesting that Minimum Wage might be performed by a band who Might be Giants.
  • Mr. Mai for providing the name of the band that performed Star Trekkin'. I knew this one, but didn't put them down for some reason. It's one of my favourite songs!
  • Bastiaan Huisman for pointing out that The Vagina Song was apparently not written by The Longpigs, The Bloodhound Gang, OR Monty Python.
  • Brian for adding Born in East L.A. to the list.
  • Megan Lynne for noting that she had a copy of Secret Asian Man by a group called Da Vinci's Notebook.
  • Joe Zumchak for informing us of the correct authors for You're a Porn Star, Hello I Love You, and Minimum Wage. He also added Gonorrhea, and Walking 'Round in Women's Underwear to the list. Update: Joe also proved that Burning Down the Church is by Bob Rivers.
  • Sy ko let me know that Wonderbra was performed by Bob Ricci.
  • Justin Petrosek for attempting to clear up considerable confusion regarding the writers and performers of The Vagina Song.
  • Kaia Gavere for writing in and pointing out that I Wanna Be A Stormtrooper was performed by The Anarchy Steering Committee.
  • Adrian Mettler for writing in and letting me know that The Vagina Song is definitely not by The Bloodhound Gang. We'll get this cleared up eventually, I'm sure...
  • Stephen Ottewill corrected a small spelling error. I don't use a spell checker, but maybe I should start. ;)
  • Inga Perham added the Bong Song to the list.
  • Benjamin Henry let it be known that the Zelda Nintendo Theme is directly from the Nintendo game, Legend of Zelda, composed by Shigeru Miamoto.
  • Ellen Koenig for reporting the artist of the OTHER In a Gadda Da Vida Polka. This is the one that's been floating around the net, apparently.
  • Steve (formerly wa3dhb, aka Jay Ward) wrote in to mention that You're a Porn Star is NOT by Adam Sandler and that The Beer Song is by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Also pointed out that All I'm Gonna Do is by Paul Shanklin and that Bitchney Spears is the same song as Make my Boobies One More Size. Update: He helped add a bunch of new songs to the list and a few corrections. Update: Steve took the initiative yet again and provided corrections and hints for Livin' La Vida Yoda, Chinese Combo Number 5, and Thong Song. Many thanks to Steve!

  • Andrew Kent notified me of several songs that belong on The List: Parody of Another Brick in the Wall, Killing My Software, She Gotta Pee, and The Bill Gates Song.

  • Andrew Kowpak sent actual proof of the true artists of Baby Got Jack. Another mystery bites the dust.
  • Simon Ramseier sent along some excellent proof of the artist of McDonald's Girl. The song was written by Dean Friedman in 1982 and covered by several groups since, even the Barenaked Ladies. The version that's floating around is a cover by The Blenders. Thanks, Simon!
  • Loose Bruce Kerr emailed me with some comments about The List, and also sent along the new URL to his site. Always an honor to hear from the artists themselves!
  • Kevin Bouchard advised that Gonorrhea is not a Cheech Marin (or Tommy Chong) song.
  • Walt Berstler excellently displayed his disco knowledge by pointing out that the Star Wars Disco is by Meco. It's also a mistitle: the actual name of the song is very long, so I shortened it to Star Wars: Title Theme (Disco Medly) and added it to the Not Al cross-reference.
  • Thanks go to JT Thomas for trying to help clear up confusion surrounding Walk With an Erection which might have been by The Swinging Erudites. But is now confirmed to be by the German group J.B.O.
  • Cory Anotado expertly pointed out that Survivor Parody is a mistitled Isle of Survivor by My Hairy Brother.
